The original building was constructed at the end of the 19th century, with evidence suggesting that the original design was signed by architect Hans Dickel in 1893. However, the façade bears an inscription with the date 1894.

This intervention arose from the need to refurbish the building, which was dilapidated and functionally inadequate, thereby improving its habitability and with the aim of restoring the building’s original architecture, which indelibly marked the beginning of Avenida Sá da Bandeira.
