The project “CP 07/2020 – Execution of the Eurovelo 1 of the CIMRC” aims at the execution of a section of the Eurovelo 1 Route – Atlantic Coast Route in the Intermunicipal Community of the Coimbra Region, which runs through the municipalities of Figueira da Foz, Cantanhede and Mira, in the district of Coimbra.

The intervention, whose mobility project was developed by the company FOCUS GROUP, takes place between the southern limit of the municipality of Figueira da Foz, in the parish of Marinha das Ondas, and the northern limit of the municipality of Mira, in the locality of Areão, totaling 83.25 km. Regarding the distribution of the route, the municipality of Figueira da Foz holds approximately 57.70 km, while the municipalities of Cantanhede and Mira hold 8.36 km and 17.19 km, respectively.

The EUROVELO route is conceived as a set of shared and dedicated paths promoting the territory where it is located, also focusing on integration with the national and regional system, thus creating a coherent network throughout the territory. On a European scale, it is an axis of integrated mobility within a vast network of similar facilities.

The construction of this new cycle path, which will have sections of dirt track and others paved, includes preparatory work such as clearing and brush removal, natural engineering constructions, pavement construction, drainage, horizontal and vertical signage, construction of wooden walkways and a cycle/pedestrian bridge over the Mira canal, designed by the company LCW, designated as “Pedestrian Bridge over the Mira canal”, which has a total length between support axes of 24 m, of metal bridge, with a reinforced concrete slab deck and foundations consisting of an alignment of two reinforced concrete piles, cast in place at each abutment.
