The Agostinho da Silva School, part of the D. Diniz School Group in Lisbon, was designed in the late 1950s and opened in 1960.
With the main objective of organising the new facilities, in addition to the “natural” systematisation and implementation of the functional programme, there was an intention to make the use and utilisation of the new facilities as comfortable, safe and flexible as possible for the future, so that it would function as a whole, as a single structure, in which the parts arise naturally from reading and general living.
It was in this sense that an elevator was strategically placed next to the main lobby in Block B, which ensures access to all areas of the school for anyone with limited mobility.
