Within the scope of activity A3 of the Predefined Project 3 “Management of the Ceira River basin in the face of climate change”, funded by EEA-Grants Portugal, the development and implementation of river rehabilitation projects on the Ceira River is planned, namely hydraulic works, with the aim of improving the management of its flow for various purposes and in various situations, from drought and/or water scarcity to major floods. This objective is particularly relevant in the context of mitigating the effects of climate change, since the frequency of extreme hydrological events in this territory is expected to increase.

This undertaking foresees interventions to be carried out on the stretch of the Ceira River that runs through the municipalities of Pampilhosa da Serra, Arganil, Góis and Lousã. The locations and types of intervention to be carried out were indicated by the municipalities, based on their knowledge of the territory and the most priority needs for action on the river. The areas to be intervened upon and the respective planned works are:

1. Quinta da Mata (Pampilhos da Serra): weir repair;

2. Poço da Cesta (Arganil): weir repair downstream from the river beach and resurfacing of the riverbed and banks;

3. Foz do Choroso / Cavaleiros de Baixo (Pampilhosa da Serra): reshaping of the riverbed and banks;

4. Vale Pardieiro (Arganil and Pampilhosa da Serra): weir/crossing repair and reshaping of the riverbed and banks;

5. Vila de Góis / Santo António Weir (Góis): weir repair; resurfacing of the riverbed downstream, construction of a fish passage device and stabilization of the left bank upstream of the weir;

6. Cabril do Ceira (Lousã): reshaping of the riverbed and banks;

7. Amiais Dam (Lousã): dam repair;

8. Barrabás Dam (Lousã): dam repair.
