Catanhede House

DESCRIPTION

The design idea was based on the desire to create a dwelling that understood the circumstances of its location.

The volume of the upper body is inspired by the traditional construction of the Tocha haystacks, where the primary function was to protect against the weather by providing shelter from the sea winds. This element has a simple geometry, but a dense texture, as opposed to the volume of the ground floor, which is cut out to allow different moments of communication between the interior and exterior.

In the foreground, the office is the face of the home. A small skylight announces the entrance, linking the office and the social area. Here, the interior space merges with the exterior, which, under the same roof and using double-height ceilings, creates different visual dynamics between the two floors of the house. The outdoor space extends to the rear of the house and is once again contained by the garage.

The alternation between the full and the empty gives rise to the different interior and exterior spaces which, in constant complicity, articulate with each other.
